Part of the "Changes, Changes" year-long Kindergarten PYP planner had students outside yesterday hunting for great leaves.
First, the teacher read We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger, then the class went on their own leaf walk. Students looked for a favorite leaf and then completed Leaf Investigations noting color, size, shape and more. The class is creating a book of their favorite leaves and are noting the changes happening outside.
For their next investigation, they will do an experiment extracting chlorophyll from a leaf, and then try to determine what color the leaf would be without the dominant chlorophyll color.
