The community project gives students an opportunity to develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning. The community project engages in a sustained, in-depth inquiry leading to service as action in the community.
Students follow the inquiry and design cycle as they work toward their established goal. Students are assessed on their progress in each phase of the cycle at the completion of their project.
Students identify the IB learner profile attributes and approaches to learning skills they believe they will be demonstrating throughout the project.
SERVICE AS ACTION
IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment. At Mary Ellen Henderson, we value service with others as an important way to engage in principled action across a range of overlapping local and global communities.
MYP LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR SERVICE
With appropriate guidance and support, MYP students should, through their engagement with service as action:
